Sitting down for an extended period can stress your spine. If you are starting to feel pain on an airplane, when safe, move around to stretch and ease your stiffness. If your car ride is exceptionally long and you are in pain, plan for a scheduled stop to walk around and stretch. This will allow for movement and oxygen to reach your lower back.
Support your back
While you are on your flight, bring a back roll or ask for a pillow to help avoid slouching. You can ease your pain by placing them behind your lower back. If you are in a car make sure your back is properly aligned against the back of your seat. If your car has extra lumbar support take advantage, if not you can even add additional support like a cushion or pillow.
