Tips For Staying Active This Holiday Season

With the holiday season quickly approaching, many people are beginning to shop and prepare for the festivities. It can be easy to slack on fitting enough physical activity into your routine during this busy time, especially if you don’t have a sound plan. Here at Massapequa Pain Management & Rehabilitation, our team would like to provide some tips for how you can stay active throughout the holiday season.

Get The Whole Family Involved

For many, the holidays offer the opportunity for a lot of family time. That is why one of the best ways to stay active is to make sure you get the whole family involved. The more people who agree to participate in a planned activity, the more likely everyone is to complete it! You can also turn it into a bit of a competition, allowing each other to stay motivated and push past your normal output boundaries.

Stick To A Schedule

Another tip for staying active is to do your best to stick to a schedule. By creating a routine leading up to the holidays, your body will begin to crave exercise during the times you usually perform them. Trying to eat at roughly the same time each day is also essential to maintaining your routine, so don’t be afraid to take charge of the holiday meal planning.

Set Attainable Goals

One of the most common reasons people fail to remain active is that they either don’t set goals or choose ones that aren’t attainable. By picking realistic goals, you’ll have something to work towards, increasing the likelihood of you staying motivated. Some goals to consider include:

  • Going for a walk every day after dinner.
  • Increasing the reps of a specific exercise each week.
  • Increasing the weight used in a particular exercise each week.

Other Tips To Consider

Staying active can prove to be a challenge, no matter what time of year it is. However, following the tips our team provides, you stand a good chance of avoiding any potential holiday setbacks. In addition to the previously mentioned, below are also some tips worth following:

  • Turn holiday shopping into a workout by parking far away from the entrance and doing a few laps around the store.
  • If you don’t have time to hit the gym, try to go for a daily walk.
  • Ask for new workout clothes as a holiday present to give yourself an additional boost of motivation.

While many people fail to realize it, staying active and moving your body regularly is a great way to prevent injury, pain, and other arising issues. By prioritizing physical activity, you are prioritizing your overall health!
